7 Simple Self Care Activities for a Relaxing Day

It’s important for everyone to take time for themselves every now and then to enjoy a moment of self-care. If you are in dire need of some “me time”, listen up.

There are so many ways to decompress and relax, but we’re sharing a few of our favorites we see our curlfriends doing to keep life balanced. Here’s a list of seven things you can do on your next “me” day.

Recharge with These Self Care Activities:

1. Get Artsy

When was the last time you did something creative? Creative activities can have calming effects on the body that can reduce feelings of anxiety, depression, and stress.  Activities like painting, crocheting, or even doing an adult coloring book are some easy ones you can do at home. Doing something creative is said to help focus the mind and it can sometimes push people to think outside of the box. For example, making a vision board would help lay out which dreams and goals you are most focused on accomplishing in your life. There are no rules to art and creativity so you are able to be as free with your choices as you want.

2. Retail Therapy (Let’s go shopping!)

Sometimes, the best purchases are the ones that you make as a gift to yourself, so it’s time to buy that item that has been sitting in your cart for too long. On the other hand, you could go on a shopping spree and buy some clothes that just make you feel good. According to a study from the Journal of Consumer Psychology, retail therapy has the ability to make people instantly happy while also fighting lingering sadness. Shopping puts you in control to buy the things you want rather than the things you need.

Speaking of shopping, why not treat yourself to some products from our new Lavender Aloe collection. This collection focuses on helping to alleviate the stress of wash day and to make it an overall more relaxing experience.

3. Put down your devices

Step away from your phone, it’s time to have a social media cleanse. Stop looking at what everybody else is doing and live in the moment. Your time is precious, so be careful not to spend all of it mindlessly scrolling through social media. Instead, take this time to exercise, read a book, or indulge in one of your favorite hobbies.

4. Binge a show

I know you’re thinking “how is this self care?,” but bingeing a show allows you to escape into a world free of reality and responsibility. The best part is that there are so many streaming platforms readily available to watch from the comfort of your home. Once you settle on a platform, choose a show that either just came out or is highly recommended (like HARLEM coming this December to Amazon Prime Video). While it’s not good to spend all your time watching TV, it is sometimes nice to lie down and enjoy a show with some of your favorite snacks.

5. ROCK out to some music

Listening to a playlist filled with all of your favorite songs is sure to always make you feel good. You could blast the playlist in your car, in your room, or even in the shower. Listening to music that you like can provide a sense of comfort along with motivation to allow you to get more things done. We highly recommend our 17th Anniversary or Girl Power playlist on Spotify.

6. Pamper yourself

It’s time for you to be treated like royalty and have a day of pampering. It could be something as simple as getting your nails done or booking a hair appointment at your favorite salon. Another great option could be getting a massage or a soothing facial. Today is your day to rest. Book that appointment and let someone else cater to you.

7. Take yourself on a date

This might sound a little odd, but it’s okay to be a party of one. Throw on a nice ‘fit that you would wear on an actual date and take yourself out on the town. Hit up the popular brunch spot, take a walk through the park, or do a fun activity. Don’t forget to capture pictures of yourself and some of the beautiful moments throughout the day.
